Starting or Transferring Service

  1. Visit the Village Office at P.O. Box 546 during business hours, or call (740) 769-2570.

  4. Service is typically activated within one business day of application approval.

Billing & Payments

Water bills are issued monthly and are due by the 15th of each month. A 10% penalty is applied to unpaid balances after the due date. Payments can be made in person at Village Hall, by mail, or by calling the office.

Discolored or Unusual-Smelling Water? Run your cold water tap for 10–15 minutes. If the problem persists, contact the Water Department during business hours so we can assess whether there is a known main or system issue in your area.

Water Service Policies

  • The service line from the curb stop to your home is the property owner's responsibility to maintain.
  • Accounts delinquent 90+ days may have the balance transferred to property tax.
  • Water shutoffs for non-payment require written notice and a minimum 10-day window to cure.
  • Meter tampering or unauthorized connections are subject to fines and service termination.
  • Residents moving out must notify the Village Office to avoid continued billing.

What to Never Flush or Pour Down Drains

  • Wipes — even those labeled "flushable" can cause serious blockages.
  • Grease, fats, or oils — these solidify in pipes and cause backups.
  • Medications — use local drug take-back programs instead.
  • Paper towels, feminine hygiene products, cotton balls — these do not break down.
  • Hazardous chemicals or paint — contact Jefferson County for proper disposal.

Sewer Backup? If you experience a sewage backup inside your home, stop using all water fixtures and contact the Village Office immediately at (740) 769-2570. Do not attempt to clear main line blockages yourself.

Lateral Responsibility

The sewer lateral (the pipe connecting your home to the public main) is the responsibility of the property owner. The Village maintains the public sewer mains. If you suspect a problem with the public main rather than your lateral, contact the Village Office and a crew will investigate at no charge.
